Facilitator Tip: Changing the Rules

One fun thing about being an experiential facilitator is getting to change the rules of a particular game to fit the needs of your participants. I tend to be a ‘rule tester’ in general, so getting to change the rules as I see fit makes my job all that more enjoyable.
Simon Says
There are two games I remember playing as a kid that weren’t that fun; Simon Says and 52 Card Pick Up. I’m a very visual learner, so I was terrible at Simon Says. I was often the first kid out causing me to take the long walk-of-shame off to the side. My older brother Darren LOVED to play the ‘original’ 52 Card Pick Up with me, and needless to say that is NOT a very fun game to whomever has to pick up the cards. Let’s just say I might still be a little bit bitter about that one… However, with a few rule changes these two games are now my absolute favorite activities to lead with my participants. Check out my YouTube video on this new version of Simon Says (rule tweak by Scott Gurst!). And check out my Mini Stack The Deck cards below for info on 52 Card Pick Up!
