End of Day Review Thumball

One of the simplest ways to create meaningful closure in a session is to ask the right question at the right moment. The End of Day Review Thumball™ does exactly that – while also adding energy, movement, and connection. I designed this tool to help shift the focus from the facilitator to the group, giving participants a chance to process their experiences in a way that feels natural, engaging, and personal.

Whether I’m wrapping up a team-building day, a classroom lesson, or a recovery group session, this Thumball always gets people talking – and thinking. Each question is a prompt that opens the door to reflection, insight, and conversation. It’s a great way to uncover the learning that may not have surfaced yet, and to give every voice a chance to be heard before the day ends.

To use the End of Day Review Thumball™, gather your group in a circle of about 10–12 participants. Gently toss the ball to someone in the group. When they catch it, they look under their thumb and read the question printed on that panel aloud. They then answer it in their own words – sharing something meaningful from the day’s experience. Questions range from light and thoughtful to deep and reflective, so there’s room for all kinds of responses.

After one person answers, they can gently toss the ball to someone new, or pass it if the group prefers a calmer pace. You can go around until everyone has had a turn, or keep it moving until time runs out. Encourage participants to expand on their answers, share personal insights, or connect their thoughts to others’ responses. This turns the activity into a natural conversation, not just a one-time answer.

For a quieter or individual format, the Thumball works just as well as a journaling tool. Ask participants to write a response to one question a day, or reflect on the same question in pairs. It’s a fun, flexible way to close sessions with intention – and to turn simple questions into powerful moments of clarity, connection, and growth.
