Do you need more processing skills than sitting in a circle, asking questions, and talking about what happened? This intensive workshop is based on the book, A Teachable Moment, and will give you access to 120+ different processing tools that are simple and easy to use.

The curriculum includes:

     History of Processing --Why debrief?

     Debriefing models

     Creating time for experiential debriefs

     Basic Experiential Education theory

     Low challenge activities

Peer review

Processing helps learners make connections between their educational experiences and real life, as well as future learning. It helps learners realize that they can apply the lessons they learn and skills they use in a "contrived environment" such as a classroom or challenge course to real life issues such as resolving a conflict with friends, co-workers or significant others. Processing helps create purpose, meaning and focus of an activity it helps learners take advantage of teachable moments.

So why is the reflective side of experiential education often skipped in educational programming? Why do facilitators share that this is one of the aspects they find most challenging?  In our observations it seems
many are intimidated by processing because they think it is boring, or they do not leave enough time for reviewing. Hands-on practitioners are often so motivated by exciting and engaging group challenges that they do not make the time for what they see as the less engaging "task" of debriefing.

This workshop will challenge practitioners to think of reflection in a different way.
Processing activities can be just as dynamic and engaging as challenge course initiatives or group initiatives- especially with a new frame of mind towards recognizing that reflection is not that 'thing' that comes at the end of the activity. IT IS NOT. It is that thing that creates the value and wonder in learning; it is the way ideas come together as a lasting lesson.

There is no one set way to process or one perfect time to process. Using a variety of techniques and using activities that give learners the power to take the lead in reflection is the most engaging and effective way of viewing processing. This workshop will provide you with multiple techniques to enhance your processing skills.
